May 2011:  Ketty is a funny kid, and she wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She is twins with Dinah and is more outgoing of the two. At first she seems like a very serious kid, but when you get to know her, her personality comes through and she is really quite sassy! Ketty lives with their mother, and Dinah lives with her aunt and cousins. They told us that sometimes they switch, and Dinah will go live with her mother and Ketty with the aunt. This monh she was able to take part in 2 field trips. She took a bus to Jinja where she saw the Nile River for the first time, and went on a boat tour. She also went to Wonder World, a theme park, where she went on rides and tried to learn how to swim! She was given medication for de-worming.

Ketty had been attending Hope Secondary School, but she was not enjoying it and her attendance wasn't good. It was a very poor school. We have transfered her to St. Mary's Secondary School, and it is working out much better! The best part is that it is right behind CUS, her primary school. This means that it is very easy for Hellen, director of CUS, to keep daily tabs on her, which is important. During a visit to their classroom, she seemed happy. It was a small, spacious and clean classroom with about 30 students. They headmaster said they really emphasize attendance and they have kicked 2 students out for poor attendance. The school is science oriented and they aim to produce "job creators" rather than "job seekers". It is a new school and they are adding on a class with each year, and they are working on building a huge science lab and a boarding dorm. The girls take math, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, agriculture, history, religion, fine art, commerce, entrepreneurship, literature, and english. Tuition is $60/term, and first term is more expensive as they also need to pay for things like uniform, identity card, admissions, etc. Thanks to Jennifer, these costs have been covered and Ketty is getting a top quality education!
